Well when Ubisoft says they’re going to debut something, they really debut something. They’ve just released five different trailers for Far Cry 5 to join the live action spot and character art from earlier in the week. There’s also a release date, which has Far Cry 5 coming out after the holiday, February 27th, 2018.
As hinted at by the cover art reveal, religion plays a big role here as well. The Eden’s Gate cult is terrorizing the local community under the guise of saving the residents’ souls. Naturally, that involves forced baptisms/drownings and holding a gun against someone’s head while also holding what looks like a Bible. You know, light narrative fare.
The development team spent a few weeks in Montana doing on-site research and also studied religious cults in an attempt to depict them correctly, the PlayStation Blog notes. Rather than focusing on one central villain as in games past, the idea here was to build a realistic framework around Joseph Seed, the leader of Eden’s Gate.
Interestingly, Far Cry 5 also sees the return of the map editor, which has been updated with new features that are said to add a new dimension to gameplay.
More details will be announced during the E3 gaming expo in June, where Ubisoft will hold its annual conference.
It's even better news for PS4 owners, who will be able to download a free Far Cry 5 skin pack with the game.
This same content will be available on Xbox One and PC through the Ubisoft Club.
Fans will be able to pick up the Far Cry 5 Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Gold Edition.
